Your First Blog Entry

By Owen Jones
The content of your blog is an important factor in attracting visitors and acquiring a target audience. Publishing your first article or item is a big milestone in your blogging career. Fortunately, there are several basic guidelines, which can make your articles more interesting to your audience, appraised by the search engines and respected by the world of blogging.

Publishing Effective Content: Before you start to write anything on your blog, you should already know who your target audience is and what they want from a blog. If you consider that these factors are irrelevant for your blog, because your blog is not at all business oriented, you will have to realize that if you want readers to keep coming back, then these factors really are very relevant.

Always bear in mind that where there are readers there is always something interesting to read. The only reason that people read is because they want something. If you honestly want to achieve some kind of readership, you must try hard to make your content interesting and actually relevant to what your readers want to read about.

Firstly, bare in mind that interaction is the key here. More so, your communication must be honest. When you publish your content, you must also allow your true self shine through. Blogs are very personal by nature and how you communicate is the key to being personal. The fact that each blog is unique because each writer is unique is enough for you to not have to worry about blog entries being similar. Remember that whatever topic you are blogging on, you must incorporate your personality into your article.

In order to create a loyal target audience, it is vital for them to trust you and relate to you. That does not have to mean that they need to know all your personal details, but you have to connect with your readership in an authentic manner. After establishing your rapport with your audience, the content must also be credible. The blog must have authenticity even though credibility takes long time to build.

The moment you start publishing your content, which is, of course, of high value and usefulness to the readers, you will also start establishing your authority on that subject. There will come a time when your readers will ask you for advice or seek your opinion. This is the time when you have achieved a kind of credibility and you must use this to build your reputation as an expert and a blogger.

Blogger's Block: Blogging is writing but just uses a different medium. There are several methods to fight blogger's block. Always keep in mind that your blog is there to serve you and not to scare you. You do not have to go in for blogging because you have wonderful writing skills or a journalism degree. The fact is that you have something to say and you want others to hear. However, if you are feeling stuck on an idea, there are several suggestions that you can apply when trying to create content for your blog.

You could try visiting other peoples' blogs for ideas. Visit those blogs that interest you and pick ideas and topics from those blogs that might be worth blogging about on your own blog but bear in mind the relevance of the topic to your readership. You can also use syndicated updates. You do this by subscribing to news services , which let you input a few keywords. Anything relevant to those keywords is then sent to you automatically on a daily basis. Yahoo and Google, amongst others, offer such services This is most useful for bloggers.
